The church lay dormant during the first half of the twentieth
century. Lookout Mountain was an isolated area that was mainly
composed of ranchers and farmers. Occasionally, a traveling
minister would come through the valley and the church would
gather. The church became run down to the point that the people in
the neighborhood were concerned for the state of the cemetery that
is located in the back of the church.

A group called the Rocky Mountain
Zion Mission was formed in 1928 to at least catalog the graves in
the cemetery and to provide basic maintenance on the grounds.
During the depression the church was home to transients and CCC
workers off and on. It is a complement to the construction
techniques of the late 1880s that the building remains in good
shape to this day.
